Gráinne Clear announces an exciting new departure for Little Island

Little Island has for many years been a publisher of paperback fiction for children and teenagers, mainly by emerging Irish authors, with the occasional work in translation. But lately we’ve been dipping our toe into new waters, exploring other areas of publishing for young people. Our most recent exploits have been in the publication of picture books about race and gender equality (Declaration of the Rights of Boys and Girls, Colour of People), a collection of essays on amazing Irish women (Rocking the System) and a book of poetry (Hopscotch in the Sky)—all of which reflect the interests and values of Little Island.

Last September we ventured into a whole new part of the children’s market with the publication of a large-format, hardback information book called Dr Hibernica Finch’s Compelling Compendium of Irish Animals. One of our aims in Little Island is to create books that are by and for Irish people. We like to offer opportunities for Irish voices to be heard and to meet the interests of Irish readers—something that also, of course, appeals to Irish booksellers—which is why we are so pleased to publish this beautifully illustrated hardback book about the creatures that swim in Irish waters, fly in the air around us and inhabit the Irish countryside.[…]
